I wish I knew how to quit you.
A movie without the direct touching of the heart but has the power to go to the deepest corner of it; A movie talks about love without speaking it out, but is loud enough to be heard clearly. It's the movie made by Taiwanese director Ann Lee, it's the movie that has brought a tremendous influence to Hollywood and the world and it's the movie called Brokeback Mountain.
Ennis and Jack had totally different characteristics and personalities. Ennis hides everything inside while Jack always shows whatever is in his mind through facial expressions. Two characters without any slightest similarities except poor growing environments met each other at the Brokeback Mountain. Boring and exhausting cowboy life and numerous chores not only tests their skills but also made a friendship which sustained for 20 years start.
The cruelest ending of a story is the one without hope. Ennis and Jack knew they should lead a normal life just like everyone else. A family is what a man needs to build and romance is the thing that should be hidden behind, even they couldn't fix it, they had to stand it. They both knew it was hard for them to keep secrets silent. The love was so strong that they couldn't and wouldn't quit. The consequence was easy to be seen from the starting point. Ennis's marriage went into a dead end as his wife, Alma, found Jack was not merely her husband's fishing buddy. And Jack was a husband without the control of the whole family, a type of life that he could never really enjoy to have. Chances for them to change were plenty, but they lacked the courage to make a turn on their life journey. Their love should not be spoken out because it was not allowed.
Jack's sudden death put an end to their story. Through their conversation on the phone, not only did Jack's wife, Lureen, find how little she knew about her husband but also Ennis realize how deep his love is toward Jack. He made a visit to Jack's parents and wanted to take his ashes back with him. But in Jack's room, he found something more important, two shirts hanging on the same hanger, his inside of Jack's. Jack wanted to protect him as much as he could.
Jack chose to live alone in a small cottage to spend the rest of his life, with Jack always in his heart. Which he believed was the best way he could do for Jack. “Jack, I swear.” A love that does not need to be said again and again, but a promise is plenty enough.
